Fine Dining

Mykonos is arguably the top Greek island in terms of quality of food and service. Almost anywhere you eat here you will be quite happy. Unlike many islands where customers are treated like " here today, gone tomorrow ", Mykonos has  a very large, regular clientele, mostly wealthy Athenians, who expect top food and top service. Business owners here do not have the luxury of the " excused mistake ". A few bad experiences, and the word gets out.The island has the  reputation of being expensive, and even though there are restaurants where you can spend a fortune, you can eat extremely well at a very reasonable price. Just follow your nose and your instinct and you will not be disappointed.

Some restaurants and tavernas ...

  • Iterni : up market Italian restaurant with very stylish contemporary decor. Turns into a bar late at night (expensive)

  • Ancient Recipes (Archaion Gevseis) :  very interesting and delicious meals from ancient Greek civilization as mentioned by Epicurius & others, set in different decor and atmosphere.

  • Appaloosa: nice atmosphere and a different mix of dishes, some vegetarian, some Tex-Mex also bar busy with locals & tourists alike.

  • Art Cafe & Garden: a friendly place with outside sitting for breakfast, light lunch & salads, snacks & bakery. At Fabrika square, the bus station to all south coast beaches.

  • Avra : a friendly small restaurant with Greek and international dishes. Inside sitting + terraces.

  • Caesar’s: small taverna on Goumenio square.

  • Chez Maria: select restaurant in a beautiful garden setting. Always very busy with repeat customers.

  • Edem: beautiful  pool setting in the middle of town.

  • El Greco: 3 Pigadia, (at the 3 Wells): a favorite for many. Great location for people watching, very good food at good prices.

  • The Fruit Bowl: breakfast & snacks all-day

  • Kiki's at Agios Sostis Beach: great salads and Greek entrees, barbecue with grilled meats & more

  • Katrin’s: (La Maison De Catrine) Expensive but reputable international style " nouvelle cuisine" , fresh fish and Greek dishes ... still very popular.

  • Lotus: ( ***** MBN favorite ) Totally unpretentious, charming and romantic little place on main street Matoyianni, sitting under a canopy of vines. A tiny bar that attracts serious drinkers until very late. Giorgos behind the bar can out drink and out smoke almost anyone. Good and very reasonably priced home cooking. Great spot for people watching. Managed by Dutch Elsa, whose smile can actually stop the bus!

  • Nikos Taverna  ( ***** MBN favorite )  Highly recommended. on Platy Yialos : On the beach with superb food and service. Free beach umbrellas for customers. Nikos the mustachioed owner is from Crete and watches everything like a hawk. No compromises to quality here. If you love fresh sea food, this is the place! Tel : 22890 24306 , email nikostaverna@mykonosbynight.com

Sakis Restaurant  ( ***** MBN favorite )  Highly recommended. New place on the way to Platy Yialos, opposite Mykonos Blu Hotel. Superb home made Greek food. Very reasonable prices and top quality. Owners Sakis and Fonis have been on the island for over 20 years and both love to cook and chat. The fact that the place is full of locals says a lot. Always busy at dinner time with lively ambience. Try the home made Moussaka and great house wine. Tel : 22890 24244

Magic garden restaurant

  • Maccherone & La Bussola: Outside sitting Italian restaurants in the Lakka district close to the bus station. Both are always very busy.

  • The Magic Garden : Magic indeed ! A garden restaurant with friendly atmosphere and service, also an indoor bar, now managed by the owners of reputed Kastro bar.

  • Mamakas : A darling of Athenian trendies. Greek speciality dishes, friendly service, & cute waiters. Stark, minimalist decor.

  • Nikos Skepathianos : largest choice of typical Greek dishes. Always very busy. An institution on its own. This is where Petros the pelecan has dinner.

  • Oasis: simple but friendly taverna in a quiet garden.

  • Yves Klein Blue: a tiny and chic restaurant with a special atmosphere, mostly Italian recipes.

  • Marco Polo : Good, down to earth, traditional Greek food. Many locals.

  • Philippi : One of the oldest restaurants and a Mykonian institution. Expensive.

  • La Taverna Italiana : In the Laka area near the bus station. Best pizza in town. Home and Hotel delivery.

restaurant chez maria

The best souvlaki in town is at Fanis, near the bus stop.

The port is a great place for people watching, but you can actually eat very well here at 3 places : Madoupas ( cheap ) , Kazarma ( pricier but very reasonable ), and Bakogias ( our favorite )

All beaches have at least one taverna where you can eat fresh fish and traditional Greek food.
