Strolling
along the narrow, winding streets of Mykonos town, sometimes makes
one wonder if they are in Rodeo Drive, or Worth Avenue.
The number
of very well known international brands being sold in numerous chic
boutiques is amazing. Practically every fashion designer you can think
of is represented here.
Most of
the top Greek jewelers, such as Lalaounis, and Kessaris have fabulous
shops displaying some of their best pieces.
The main
shopping street is called Matoyianni. The best boutiques interspersed
with cafes, bars, and restaurants can be found on this narrow,
pedestrian street. In many ways this is the center of town. Here you can
people watch, drink, dance, eat, and shop to your heart's delight. The
sight of celebrities being chased by paparazzi is not uncommon, and some
of the beautiful people walking by make heads turn.
The whole
area off Matoyanni st. and Little Venice is full of very interesting
shops and art galleries. It is definitely worth exploring the whole
town, because you never know what you might discover.
We found a
very bizarre shoe shop aptly called "Eccentrics" on the street
parallel to Matoyanni, and the most wonderful art gallery in the Little
Venice area called "Bougainvillia Fine Arts". It is run by
Dutch art expert Rita Veenstra, and exhibits works by Genevieve Couteau,
Georgios Tzortzoglou, Antonis Ambatzis, and Thomas McKnight. Tel : 28102
. The Golden Corner
shop near Pierro's bar is worth a visit as well. A family business since
1977 where Konstantinos designs jewelry and his father and brother
produce it entirely by hand. Tel : 27691. The
Panorea Galata Photo Gallery.
