The
beaches most suitable for families are:
Platis Yialos, Ornos, Kalafati, Psarou, Agios Stefanos,

| Platis
Yialos: One of the most popular beaches
of the island with very regular bus service to town about 4 km away. This beach is
very well organised and provides a variety of sea sports such as water ski, diving, pedal boat
etc. This is the place to board small boats that take you to all
the other south coast beaches of Paranga, Agrari, Elia, Paradise and Super
Paradise. Even though crowded in the summer, its large choice of quality hotels and
restaurants, and its proximity to town make it one of our favorites. |
Psarou:
one of the most
famous beaches on Mykonos, about 5 km away from the town. The clean sea, the sandy beach and the beauty of the wider area
in Psarou are a combination that attract thousands of tourists,
Athenian trendies, and Greek High Society.
The beach is
excellently organized for a variety of sea sports.
Ornos:
In the south-west part of Mykonos, about 3 km
from the town. The beach gently slopes into the sea, perfect for
families with children. Many lodgings and taverns.
Here you can take lessons for
water skiing, surfing, and scuba-diving.
Paranga:
A 15-min. walk from central Platis Yialos beach, a small beautiful
beach: organised at one end and a small section mostly gay. Good
quality taverns nearby.
Agia Anna -
Paranga: tiny beach on
Plati Yialos bay next to Paranga which has
two good taverns.
|
Megali
Ammos:
the closest to the town
" Hora". A bit rocky, but great if you have only 1 or
2 hours to spend.
|
Kalo
Livadi: mostly
empty family oriented beach, just 2 km
from Ano Mera village.
Tourlos:
a long and narrow stretch of beach and rocks, 1 km north of the town.
Nothing special. |
| Super
Paradise: (also locally called
Plintri) A world famous and magnificent sandy beach with crystal clear blue water in a small
but deep bay. Half the beach is hetero and the other half is
fully gay with nude bathing permitted, especially along the rocky
parts. Most famous gay beach in this part of the Mediterranean. Many
caiques leave from Platis Yialos beach. One huge self service taverna.
Dancing and great fun after 6:00
Kalafatis
beach - Agia Anna beach: Two more beaches with sandy shore and
clear water. Between them, there is a peninsula with a small fishing port.
Beautiful landscape. Surfing and diving school.
Elia: Large
beach with a mixed crowd : hetero and gay. The organised part has 3 restaurants and taverns. Some nudity at one end. Not too
crowded. Last stop with the small boats leaving from central Platis
Yialos beach: there is also a bus line from Chora (Mykonos town) 10 km
away.
|
Agios Ioannis: This
area is considered as one of the most beautiful ones in south-west
Mykonos with clean sea and a tiny strip of sandy beach. Some small
coves and a fabulous view of Delos island. A lot of Athenians building
villas here.
This is where the well known film " Shirley Valentine " was
shot, thus making Agios Ioannis famous the world over.
|
Paradise
(Kalamopodi)
beautiful beach,
mostly frequented by the younger crowd due to the big and very well
organised camping site . A backpackers' heaven. Access by small boat
from Plati Yialos, and also by bus. Many water sports. Famous from the hippy
years.
Agios Stefanos:
the
windless sandy beach of Ag. Stefanos is about 1 km further than
Tourlos. Sea sports available but nothing special. |
Korfos bay:
strong winds perfect for wind surfing
|
Beaches
for the more independent and adventurous beach-goers, preferably
driving a Jeep!
|
Panormos
& Agios Sostis beaches:
situated in the northern part of the island. Rather isolated with a mixed
crowd.
Agrari:
A cozy small beach, only a 5 min.
walk from Elia. Not crowded.
(you can get here also by caique from Platis Yialos)
Kapari: hidden
behind Agios Ioannis beach: no
shade or
food.
Ftelia:
Facing north. One of the best bays and beaches in the whole of Greece for wind
surfing.
Lia:
The last and
most distant beach, 14 km from town. A fish taverna. Great
for loners.
Frangia:
Even farther
than Lia. Difficult
to find and used mostly for beach barbecue trips and cruises.
|
Fokos:
newly discovered
beach with beautiful wild scenery, facing north. Uncrowded with a superb local taverna.
Merchia & Mersini;
known only to the locals, unsuitable for swimming, situated on the
northern windy shores..
Houlakia:
a spectacular pebble beach ,4 km north from the town.
Glifadi:
tiny beach , south-west of the island, now surrounded by a large condo
complex. Good for families with children.
